§ September 1. The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) arrest four top leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Syed Ali Gilani, Abdul Ghani Lone, Yasin Malik and Javed Mir, in northern Kashmir. The leaders were said to be heading toward Halmatpura after addressing a public gathering in Kupwara district, when BSF personnel arrested them at gunpoint.

- In the Pangla area of Pulwama district, BSF raid a house and shoot dead three suspected militants.

§ September 2. A mosque is demolished by the occupation forces in the Bichhwar area of Chadora Tehsil in the Badgam district. During a crackdown, troops torture a number of people and the condition of three citizens, Ghulam Muhammad Mir, Tariq and Jan Shaikh, was said to be serious.

§ September 3. The army and task force personnel were seen extorting money from the people in Dawngam area of Kikarnag and upon demanding Rs 55,000 as ransom from Numberdar, the people took to the streets in protest.

§ September 4. During search operations at different places of Baramulla district, the Indian army arrest a number of youths while occupation forces impose a curfew and restrict people's movement in Aloosa Kaithan area.

§ September 5. The Indian army, during a crackdown in Manachhatar area of Kupwara district, subject people to severe torture and molest women. The father of a suspected militant, Usman Malik, is arrested in Witnimbal area. His house is razed to the ground by the army.

§ September 6. The Indian army once again arrest the leader of the People's League, Shabir Ahmed. He had participated in an anti-election rally at Lal Chowk, going door to door to ask people not to vote. The Indian army take Ahmed, and many others into custody. A central leader of the APHC, Yasin Malik, says the so-called elections will not affect the liberation movement.

§ September 7. The Chief of Jammu & Kashmir Peoples League, Shabir Ahmed Shah, says that if elections were really a solution to the Kashmir issue, it would have been resolved long ago through past elections. Addressing a gathering, he says that after thousands of people have been killed and large-scale destruction had been done to properties during the last seven years, the replacement of an administration set up through force and imposed elections, could in no way be beneficial to any one, not even to India.

§ September 8. Occupation forces gang­rape a pregnant woman in Sopore. A three­day strike is held to protest the incident.

§ September 9. During a crackdown in Sultanpura, troops gather people in an open area in the severe cold for an identification parade and threaten to torch the entire locality if they did not cooperate.

§ September 10. A leader of Jamaat­e­Islami from Ganderbal is whisked away by Indian troops and is executed immediately after being taken into detention. Civilians come out in protest.

­ Indian troops torch three homes belonging to suspected militants in Nogam and force their families to flee.

- Two civilians are killed by random troop fire on the Jammu­Srinagar highway.

§ September 11. The leaders of the APHC pledge to continue their program to unveil the election drama despite all types of hindrance by the army. They say they will visit every corner of the state and inform people of the facts about the sham elections.

§ September 12. Panic gripped the Zeenakadal area when a land mine explodes near a military camp. The explosion frightens people in the area and shopkeepers run towards safe places leaving their shops open. Four people, including a woman and her daughters, are seriously wounded during the commotion.

§ September 13. The Indian army opens fire in Pulwama town to disperse a protest rally in connection with the anti-election campaign.

§ September 14. To make the process of the so-called elections to the state assembly successful, the Indian army arrests all the leadership of the APHC, Syed Ali Gilani, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, Yasin Malik, Javed Ahmed Mir and other leaders are detained. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Shabbir Ahmed Shah are placed under house arrest so as not to take part in the anti-election campaign.

- Strike is observed in different parts of occupied Kashmir to protest against the arrest of the APHC leaders. The army had to resort to aerial firing and tear gassing in various areas to disperse protesters.

§ September 15. Life came to a halt in all parts of occupied Kashmir as a complete strike is observed after the APHC called for it in order to protest against the so-called elections. Business centres, educational institutions and government and semi-government offices wer closed.

§ September 16. Indian troops forcibly enter the homes of Ghulam Ahmad Butt, Muhammad Subhan Ganai, Abdul Khaliq Butt and Haji Abdul Rahman during the night and after forcing all residents outdoors, they torch all household contents.

§ September 17. In Islamabad, Ghulam Mohammed dies of heart attack while being tortured by Indian troops.

§ September 18. Mushtaq Ahmed, arrested during anti×election campaigns, is subjected to severe torture and all four fingers of his one hand are chopped off. The APHC spokesman reiterated that such brutal acts would not end the liberation movement but would strengthen it.

§ September 19. Occupation troops severely torture Ghulam Rasool, his son Raffiq Ahmad, teacher Ghulam Mustafa, Shaukat Ahmad Butt, Abdur Rehman, and two young women, during a crackdown in Islamabad. They are moved to a hospital in critical condition.

§ September 20. All government and semi-government offices, educational institutions and business establishments remain closed, as a complete strike is observed throughout the occupied territory at the behest of the APHC and in protest of the election drama being staged by the Indian government. Friday prayer is cancelled at the Jama Mosque in Srinagar as the Indian army imposes an undeclared curfew in the area and restricts all movement. Troops cordon off the mosque at about six a.m. and close all its doors forbiding Muslims to enter the premises. This was the first time in the last five years that Friday prayers was not be offered at the Mosque.

§ September 21. Occupation forces attack a marriage party in Srinagar and arrest several people including the newly married couple. In spite of vast protest, the couple are not released.

- Army personnel carry out a crackdown in Batmaloo in Srinagar and severely torture civilians in the area.

§ September 22. The APHC, in a press conference, says that by boycotting the so-called elections, Kashmiris have proven that they are struggling for the right to self-determination and that elections will not solve the dispute. It further says that India and the international community must fulfill promises made to the Kashmiris.

§ September 23. The Indian army cancels scheduled meetings with the detained APHC leaders, Syed Ali Shah Gilani, Abdul Ghani Lone, Prof Abdul Ghani, Javed Ahmed Mir and Dr Ghulam Hubbi.

§ September 24. In Taral, Indian troops raid the home of rickshaw driver, Muhammad Farooq, and arrest his two sons.

§ September 25. The army arrests leaders of the APHC, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Maulana Abbas Ansar, Gulzar Ahmed, Mian Muhammad Shafi and Ghulam Muhammad Wani, when they reached Doda in connection with the anti-election campaign and a curfew is imposed to control the situation.

§ September 26. Two suspected militants, Rahman Khan and Mohammad Ashraf, are arrested and tortured to death by Indian army, in Srinagar. Their bodies were handed over to the local police.

§ September 27. Troops arrest one Bilal Ahmad from Srinagar and after amputating his leg, they throw him into the street in a semi­conscious condition.

­ A crackdown is carried out in Pampoor and residents are subjected to severe torture. Six men are left in critical condition.

§ September 28. In Soyabug, during an identification parade, several people are severely tortured and four young women are gang­raped.

§ September 29. A complete strike is observed in the whole of occupied Kashmir today to protest against the holding of so-called elections in the state while the Indian authorities impose undeclared night curfews in Doda, Kishtwar, Bhadarwa and other areas. More than 350 companies of Indian troops were deployed in these areas, as polling stations are declared as the most sensitive spots.

§ September 30. In Srigafwara, three innocent civilians are shot and killed when Indian task force open fire. The force also resort to looting local homes.

§ October 1. Indian forces, during crackdowns and siege and search operations, injure dozens of people and ban the 'Azan' and prayers in the mosques of Taral, a town in Southern Kashmir, while 18 people were killed earlier.

§ October 2. Troops take into custody a Farooq Ahmed in Kulgam and later shoot and kill him.

§ October 3. Occupation forces stage a crackdown in the Pulwama area and reduce the house of Mohammad Ashraf Paray to rubble by spreading gunpowder all over it and then detonating it. Residents of the house are severely beaten.

§ October 4. Indian troops carry out crackdowns in Baramulla and arrest three people. During the operation an elderly woman suffered a heart attack and died.

§ October 5. Indian task force personnel subject people to severe torture in Srigafwara. They also attack the home of Sanaullah Zinagar and torture him to death.

§ October 6. A suspected militant, Jehangir Ahmed, who was arrested by the Indian army, is slaughtered by the troops and his head is placed on the table of the military commander of the area. The soldiers were harassing the people showing them the skull of Jehangir.

- In Sopore, personnel of the Rashtriya Rifles suddenly attack the population, dragging the people out of their houses. They beat the people and did not forgive even the women, dragging them into nearby fields and tearing their clothes from their bodies.

§ October 7. Occupation forces prevent prayers in mosques in several areas of Bandipura in the Baramulla district. They order people to remain indoors from sunset to sunrise.

§ October 8. Kashmiris, on both sides of the Line of Control, observes "Black Day" in protest against the induction of the puppet government in occupied Kashmir. Everything comes to a standstill in the Valley. All government and private offices, banks and business centres are closed and traffic is suspended.

- A memorandum is presented to the UN Observers reminding the United Nations of its responsibility in Kashmir.

§ October 9. Indian Forces set up new military camps in the valley to further intensify repression. The troops occupy several schools in Ganderbal, Baramula and Kupwara, and set up camps in these buildings. This arouses strong resentment from residents since a large number of students will not be able to use the schools.

§ October 10. In Anantnag (Islamabad) personnel try to forcibly abduct a girl. When she resisted, she is shot dead on the spot.

§ October 11. Syed Ali Gilani, Abdul Gani Lone, M. Yasin Malik, Prof Abdul Ghani, and Shabir Ahmed Shah are released from police custody. The army and task force personnel demand Rs 1.2 million from the people in Ratnipura area of Shopian. Besides, they take Rs 40,000 from one Haji Mohammad Amir Dar and Rs 30,000 from Zabihullah Dar and subject them to torture. Both of them are taken to hospital in critical condition.

§ October 12. In Elahibagh area of Buspura, army boys open indiscriminate fire and torch several shops. A woman is killed. Many women are disgraced.

§ October 13. The Rashtriya Rifles and Task Force personnel rape women in Hanjipura area, beat people and confiscates valuables worth IR 500,000. The forces also arrest a number of people from the area, releasing them sometime later in critical condition.

§ October 14. The APHC condemns the assassination attempt on a conference leader, Syed Ali Gilani and says such criminal acts by the Indian forces will not succeed in compelling Kashmiris to give up their demand for the right of self-determination.

§ October 15. Two daughters of Sabir Lone are shot by task force personnel in Nattasola. The Indian army is continuing its crackdowns for a third day in Baramulla.

§ October 16. Army personnel opens fire on a peaceful demonstration, killing a woman and a child and severely injuring many innocent people in Saura area of Srinagar.

§ October 17. A dead body is recovered from Pampore and another two from Farsal Parampura. They had all been arrested by Indian troops days earlier.

-Rashtriya Rifles personnel cordon off a large area in Islamabad and conduct house­to­house searches. One shopkeeper reports that troops demand IR 50,000 from him in exchange for his life.

§ October 18. Puppet chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah places Syed Ali Shah Gilani, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Abdul Ghani Lone, Javed Ahmad Mir and Maulvi Abbas Ansari under house arrest and deploys police personnel outside their residences. They were scheduled to address a public meeting after Juma congregations at the Hazratbal shrine.

Meanwhile, a heavy contingent of troops raid the APHC headquarters and harass the staff.

§ October 19. As many as 132 Kashmiri detainees are on hunger strike in the interrogation centre in Baramulla district, voicing their demand for trial and provision of basic facilities.

§ October 20. A bullet­riddled body of Mohammad Ashraf Mir is recovered in the Birva area. He had been kidnapped by Indian task force personnel four days ago.

­Troops release one Bashir Ahmad Khan from custody after receiving Rs. 40,000 in ransom from his family.

­Three bodies are recovered in the Islamabad area. According to locals, the deceased were killed by Indian task force personnel.

§ October 21. Occupation personnel conduct a crackdown in Baramulla and severely beat Mohammad Irshad and Shahjehan Pir.

§ October 22. Troops raid the marriage ceremony of Ghulam Muhammad Mir at Hattipura and intimidate the guests. Ghulam Muhammad Mir is allegedly a relative of a suspected militant. They also arrest Farooq Ahmed and Ghulam Nabi, teachers of an Islamic educational institution and a public school respectively, in Shopian area.

§ October 23. Four innocent Kashmiri youth are brutally gunned down in Srinagar, causing people to come out and demonstrate in the streets. Ijaz Ahmad, is killed by a bullet fired at point-blank range. Another youth, Abdul Hamid, is tortured to death by the Indian forces in Qamarwari locality of the city. Yet another youth, Ghulam Mohammad Tantray, is killed when troops open indiscriminate fire in Palhalan Pattan in Indian-Occupied Kashmir.

§ October 24. In Soyabug, Badgam, Indian forces subject people to severe torture. Abdul Ghani had his ribs broken as a result. People stage a demonstration and chant anti-India slogans.

§ October 25. The puppet chief minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah, set up a committee which is looking into the case of about 3,000 detainees. Note, that more than 20,000 people were arrested during the last seven years and they have never been produced in the courts for trial.

§ October 26. The Indian army attack the house of a suspected militant, Salahudin, in Budgam district in central Kashmir and subject his brother and other family members to severe torture. Troops threaten them to hand over alleged militants within 24 hours, otherwise strict action would be taken against them.

§ October 27. Indian troops break into the home of Mohammad Subhan in Jammu and kill five residents when they open indiscriminate fire.

­One Mohammed Liyaquat is killed by Indian task force personnel in Pulwama.

­In Baramulla, task force personnel shoot and kill ten­year old Istaq Ahmad. Another boy is taken to hospital in critical condition.

§ October 28. Eighteen members of the same family are reported missing in Sopore. The missing include: Ghulam Nabi Akhun, Ghulam Mohiyuddin, Reshi Akhum, Nazir Ahmad, Mohammad Ashraf, Mustafa Azi, Raj Bano, and Salima Bano.

§ October 29. Activists of a Hindu fundamentalist party, Bhartia Janata Party (BJP) set on fire a religious school at Doga Bala in Doda district. Books and other goods were torched. Muslims stage a demonstration and dozens of them are injured when the troops charge them with batons.

§ October 30. Indian troops arrest Abdul Qadir and Jalaluddin in Lolab and later execute them while still in custody.

­ Task force personnel gun down police constable Mushtaq Ahmad and his brother in Islamabad.

-Indian troops fire indiscriminately in the house of civilian Iftikhar Ahmed Rashi in Pulwama. Both Reshi and his son are killed in the attack. Indian troops kill three suspected militants in the same area.

­ Two suspected militants, Nazir Ahmad and Muhammad Anwar, are killed during an Indian troop operation in Tral.

§ November 1. A report indicates a large scale migration of civilians from the Valley due to repeated excesses at the hands of Indian troops over the past three months. A delegation from Srinagar discloses shocking details of Indian excesses in the area.

­A civilian succumbs to injuries sustained during random Indian firing in Pulwama.

§ November 2. Kathua is gripped by tension following the killing of an innocent person in custody by troops. People take to the streets in anti×India demonstrations. Dozens of people are injured when the security forces resort to teargassing and the use of batons to disperse them. A number of people are also injured when brute force is used against them at Nauhatta, in Srinagar after they chant slogans in favour of liberation and against Indian repression.

§ November 3. During an identification parade, troops break into civilian homes and gang rape five women. Thousands of rupees are stolen.

§ November 4. During a crackdown in Pulwama, Indian troops torture two civilians to death after they protested Indian excesses.

­Soon after ordering civilians out of their homes in Islamabad troops burn three civilian homes to the ground.

§ November 5. During the crackdown in downtown Srinagar, a dozen people were rounded up and sent to interrogation cells. Six houses are burnt in Mairaj Ganj area in Srinagar. Houses are ransacked and many are arrested in the Patten area.

§ November 6. Indian forces besieged Hari Singh High Street, Mehraj Bazar, Sarai Bala and several other localities and gather people into an open place for an identification parade before masked informers. Several youths are arrested during the parade.

§ November 7. The army personnel take Abdul Salam to their camp in Taral and shoot him dead. When his body was brought home the people in the area were so infuriated and staged a huge demonstration.

§ November 8. In Islamabad troops open indiscriminate fire when they are prevented from arresting Mushtaq Ahmed Butt. Sara Bano and a child are killed and civilians come out in mass protest.

§ November 9. Muhammad Maqbool is taken away by members of the Rashtriya Rifles and brutally tortured to death while in their custody in Islamabad.

­Troops blow up the home of Abdul Rashid in Budgam.

­ Troops go on a rampage in Pulwama and destroy the houses of Mohammad Shaban and Ghulam Muhammad.

§ November 10. An unidentifiable body was found on the Jhelum river banks in Panda Chok area of Pulwama district.

§ November 11. Indian soliders demolishe a mosque in Srinagar district by detonating a land mine. 15 persons are killed in fresh clashes. The debris of the mosque shattered windows in nearby buildings. The explosive is reported to have been placed in the mosque by Indian troops.

§ November 12. Anti-India demonstrations are held in the Bimna locality of Srinagar.

§ November 13. In Bandipura, Indian military agents shoot dead a girl and her brother.

§ In Palwama, undeclared curfew is enforced to prevent large-scale demonstrations against Indian repression. The demonstration started when troops blasted a house with mortar shells. Two bodies are recovered from the debris.

§ November 14. In Kupwaras district, troops burst into a house at Harey village and shot dead Ghulam Qadir Akhun. A reign of terror is unleashed by Indian forces in the Islamabad area where a two-month old child is shot dead by troops.

§ November 15. Indian troops carry out crackdowns in Budgam and after severely lashing civilians, two are left clinging to life.

-In Srinagar, troops arrest Muhammad Mushtaq, Muhammad Hafiz, and Abdul Qadir; after severely torturing them, they are thrown, in a precarious condition, into the street.

§ November 16. Indian troops launch a search and siege operation in a dozen areas of Srinagar and civilians are forced out into inclement weather under the pretext of an identification parade.

­Seven civilians, including a seven year old boy, are arrested in the Noor Masjid area. One of the five, Mukhtar Ahmad, is severely tortured before he is released in a precarious condition.

§ November 17. The Indian army laid siege at the General Bus Stand, Sopore, and arrested three persons. Sometime later, troops hurl several mortar bombs at houses. The bodies of Bashir Ahmed Ginai, Muhammad Amin and Mushtaq Ahmed Sufi were later recovered from the destroyed house. Reports say that nine other houses are completely destroyed and goods, worth millions of rupees, are destroyed.

§ November 18. A 90-year-old is arrested by troops at Doongiwich in Rafiabad area while eight citizens are arrested by troops during crackdowns at Nadihal.

§ November 19. In Muhammadi Pura locality in Kolgam area, Indian troops attack the marriage ceremonies of Muhammad Afzal Mir and Abdul Rehman Mir's daughters and created disorder.

§ November 20. Pro-India militants begin extorting money from traders in Islamabad and adjoining areas. According to a report published in a local daily, those who refused to pay are made to face serious consequences at the hands of troops and task force personnel.

§ November 21. A bullet-ridden body is recovered at Hindwara which could not be identified.

§ November 22. Armed Indian agents intruded into the house of one Ghulam Qadir Akhun at Taragam in the Kupwara district and open fire on him, killing him instantly.

§ November 23. Indian forces arrest Muhammad Altaf Naqshbandi, son of Maulana Muhammad Amin Naqshbandi, a renown religious scholar of Kolgam town in Islamabad district. Safia Begum (mother of Altaf) could not endure the arrest of her son by the troops, and breathed her last due to heart failure.

§ November 24. In a-CRUSH­JAMAAT- operation in southern Kashmir, a large number of civilians with sympathies for the Jamaat-e-Islami are arrested. Besides the regular Indian army, the operation is carried out by task force personnel and their mercenaries. Two prominent leaders of Jamaat, Haji Abdul Rahim Mir and Ghulam Muhammad, are killed in their houses in Shopian town in Pulwama district. The army and task force personnel killed them inside their homes, subjecting family members to severe torture, and destroying households items.

§ November 25. Troops apprehend two civilians, Ghulam Mohammad Lone and Farooq Ahmad Lone in Dakkarpura area of Handvara and demand Rs 20,000 each as ransom for their release. They also kill Mohammad Mukhtar and take a girl from Handvara town.

§ November 26. At the Barsala locality in Doda district, occupation troops raid three houses at night and rape three married women. The local people demonstrated against the incident even though they were threatened with death by the troops.

§ November 27. In the Kukarnag area of Islamabad district, several women are molested during crackdowns while Muhammad Ashraf Magrey, Nazir Ahmed Butt, Mukhtar Ahmed Butt and Asadullah Mir, are subjected to severe beatings. They were later thrown on the road in semi-conscious condition.

§ November 28. An identification parade of the citizens in the Kuil in Pulwama district is held in chilling weather and several young men were severely tortured. Meanwhile, a widely-circulated daily of Srinagar, the Aftab, says in an editorial note, that incidents of human rights violations against the unarmed Kashmiris at the hands of Indian forces, has increased remarkably. It says that strong resentment prevails among the people against these acts and they aree staging demonstrations in different towns and cities of the occupied state. The paper says that those who are claiming to create a democratic atmosphere in the strife-torn state, has now started admitting their failure as the puppet regime of Farooq Abdullah have become completely exposed.

§ November 29. In Hindwara, the Indian forces arrest a journalist, Muhammad Amin, while he is covering a Kashmiri protest demonstration. Amin, a reporter of the daily 'Aftab', as well as a correspondent for a foreign news agency, is sent to an unknown location. Journalists, protesting against the arrest of their colleague, demand his immediate release.

§ November 30. At Yaripura, a woman, who had gone to fetch water from the river is gang raped by the troops at gunpoint. This results in demonstrations by the local people.

§ December 1. Five innocent citizens are killed due to the Indian force's indiscirminate firing at a well-known locality of Srinagar, Batamaloo. A policeman, Bashir Ahmed is among those killed.

§ December 2. A resident of Narabal, Ghulam Hassan Baig, and a Nepalese labourer, are shot to death by troops.

§ December 3. Eight bullet-ridden bodies are recovered at Tanta village in Gundoo Tehsil. In the meantime, the entire population of a distant village in the same district, including both Hindu and Muslims, flee from the area due to the Indian brutality.

§ December 4. The pro-India militants abduct Muhammad Ibrahim at Doda and later shoot him dead. The body is found on the roof of his shop.

§ December 5. Troops attack the marriage ceremony of Habibullah at Digripura Wichi, and after beating guests, harass women, throwing the dowry items into the Jhelum river.

§ December 6. Indian occupation troops shoot dead an 8 year old boy, Manzoor Ahmed, during siege and search operations in the Kupwara district. One person is tortured to death by the troops in the same village.

§ December 7. A strike and anti-India demonstrations are held at Bimna locality of Srinagar.

§ December 8. In Soura locality in the vicinity of Srinagar, pro-India militants drag two citizens out of their homes. Ali Muhammad Baba and Abdur Rashid are then shot dead.

§ December 9. The Indian troops crack down at Jigarpura and call people out of their houses in extreme cold subjecting them to severe torture. Indian agents shoot Ghulam Hassan and critically injure him.

§ December 10. The bullet-ridden body of Abdur Rashid Aahangar is recovered in Pahlgam area of Islamabad district.

§ December 11. Troops launch siege and search operations at Soura, Ahmednagar, Buspura, Lal Bazar, Batamaloo and several other localities, and despite the severe cold, people are asked to come out of their homes early in the morning. The people are asked to parade before masked informers and several youths are taken away. The troops separate bearded men from others and later tortured them mercilessly.

§ December 12. Indian troops shot dead a mentally sick person at Bandipura. The family members of the deceased say that Abdul Ghaffar was mentally ill. They say he was going somewhere from his village when the occupation forces suddenly shoot a volley of bullets at him and he died instantly.

§ December 13. In occupied Kashmir, normal life came to a standstill due to a paralysing strike against increased Indian repression. All government and private offices, business centers, courts, banks and educational institutions are closed and roads are deserted. The APHC, in a statement, strongly denounces the intensified military repression. It points out that the Indian army and paramilitary troops had been carrying out a furious spree of death and destruction. Beside the killing-spree, the troops burn and blast houses in a large-scale crackdown which has become common place. The APHC made a fervent appeal to the world community to take urgent notice of the ruthless Indian state-sponsored terrorism and pressure it to stop its crimes against the Kashmiris.

-An innocent girl is killed by Indian troops at Kolgam in Islamabad district. The troops cordon off the locality early in the morning and as soon as a girl came out of her house, they open fire on her, killing her instantly. The incident produced another round of demonstrations in the area.

§ December 14. Three girls are nabbed by troops and driven to the military camp in Handwara. Enraged people staged furious anti-India demonstrations.

§ December 15. Occupation forces publicly torture two women in Budgam. This attracted a big crowd that forced the troops to release the women, who had firmly resisted removing their head scarves.

§ December 16. Two young men are arrested at Gandawa, in Doda district and are sent to torture cells.

§ December 17. Troops carry out extensive siege and search operations at Khapan Chowk, Gackadel, Hyderpura and Chanapura localities of Srinagar and a number of young men are rounded up. In similar action in Baramula and Sopere, six young men are arrested, while a house is burnt at Butpura in Kupwara district.

§ December 18. During a crackdown in Hindwara area, a woman is raped by troops triggering instant anti-India demonstrations. The demonstrators are subjected to heavy baton-charges and two of them are arrested.

§ December 19. Dozens of demonstrating engineering students in Srinagar are injured when excessive tear-gas is used on them. The students are demonstrating against open brutality by troops.

§ December 20. At Marhama, in the Islamabad area, four women are injured when troops opened fire on demonstrators staging a sit-in. Troops also resort to indiscriminate firing at Kandimarg, in the Islamabad district, killing five people including a woman.

§ December 21. Indian troops raid a hospital in Srinagar and subject patients and their attendants to prolonged and painful identity parades. Several of them are taken into custody.

-In Sant Nagar, Srinagar, Mohammad Sultan, the driver of an APHC leader, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, is arrested by the security forces and his whereabouts are not made known.

§ December 22. At Naid Kadal Locality of Srinagar, the people are subjected to physical torture during a siege and search operation. Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, publishing a newspaper from Palwama, is taken into custody in Srinagar and shot dead.

§ December 23. Tanvira, a girl who had been injured at Marhama, in Islamabad district earlier by Indian fire, died.

§ December 24. Indian troops raid the house of a suspected millitant, Umar Mukhtar in Zakura area in Vichi and severely torture the residents.

-The occupation forces are reported to have launched a massive search operation in the forests of Kupwara. The task force personnel behead a Jamaat-e-Islami worker, Khizr Mohammad.

§ December 25. A woman is raped during crackdowns in Jogipura. Two citizens are arrested by army personnel during a raid at Wachhoo locality in Shopian area of Pulwama district

§ December 26. In Sopore area of Baramula district, a girl who is abducted by Indian soldiers a week ago, remains missing.

§ December 27. Occupation forces ban the use of loud speakers for Aan and threatened people with serious consequences if they violate the restriction. The headmaster of a school, which was being run by the Falah-e-Aam Trust, was arrested at Tajar Sharif in the Baramula district and subjected to merciless torture in custody. A woman who had been arrested during a crackdown last week, has still not been released.

§ December 28. The task force personnel torch the house of a suspected millitant, Bashir Ahmed, at Harial. About 50 innocent citizens are arrested by the forces during a crackdown at the Kaltora locality in Hindwara area. Occupation forces subject unarmed civilians to severe torture, keeping them standing in cold water for several hours during a crackdown at Deosar in Islamabad.

§ December 29. A prominent journalist of occupied Kashmir, and editor of the weekly 'Wahdat-e-Milli', Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, 32, is shot dead by the troops in custody. The journalist community, expressed their serious concern over the cold-blooded murder of Mushtaq Lone, and have demanded a judicial probe of the murder.

§ December 30. Seven innocent citizens, Muhammad Akbar Rathar, Ghulam Qadir Khan, Ghulam Rasool Khan, Bashir Ahmed Ginai, Ghulam Qadir Najjar, Tariq Khan and Abdur Razzaq, are arrested by the troops at the Lewer locality in Pahlgam area. The bodies of three people, who had been kidnapped by the pro-India militants on 25th December, are recovered from the forest near Panzala in Baramula area. The brothers of the three killed, Shamsuddin Cheechi, Muhammad Shafi, and Manzoor Ahmed Butt, are said to be suspected millitants and apparently this might have been the reason behind their murders at the hands of soliders.

§ December 31. Fayyaz Ahmed Dar, a 20 year old student of Khawaja Bagh, Baramula, is arrested by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) from outside a court in Sopore in May 1990, but since then his whereabouts remain unknown. Another student, Tariq Ahmed Ginai is arrested by troops from Shehrpura in Pattan in September 1991 in the presence of a number of people, but his family is still unaware of his status.
